Softball Recap: Indianapolis Shortridge's Losing Streak Snapped at Nine Games

Indianapolis Shortridge came into Thursday's matchup having lost nine straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 21-17 victory over the Providence Cristo Rey Wolves on Thursday.

Azaria Barnett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aries Smith, who went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jaeda Scott, who got on base in three of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Indianapolis Shortridge's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Providence Cristo Rey, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Indianapolis Shortridge will take on Herron at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Providence Cristo Rey, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Tindley at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
