Basketball Recap: McCool Junction Comes Up Short

McCool Junction has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 68-54 bruising from the Sutton Mustangs on Friday. McCool Junction was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Sutton apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why McCool Junction lost, don't look at Mapieu Kouchinin. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 boards. Kouchinin's evening made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Mcdonald, who posted nine points and six assists.

Sutton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Payton Reed led the charge by putting up 16 points. Aidan Jones was another key player, posting 15 points.

McCool Junction's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Sutton, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

McCool Junction wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 60-46 victory against Heartland on the 4th. As for Sutton, they will take on Centura at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Centura will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Sutton surely won't give up without a fight.
