Baseball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Cathedral Prep's Sixth in Last Seven Outings

Cathedral Prep won the last time they faced McDowell and things went their way on Thursday too. The Ramblers were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Trojans. That's two games straight that the Ramblers have won by exactly 12 runs.

Frank Thomas tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Cathedral Prep got a massive performance out of Derick Friedman, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave Friedman a new career-high. Andrew Costello was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Cathedral Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for McDowell, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-4.

Cathedral Prep and McDowell should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Ramblers will square off against Warren at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (158 vs. 609). The timing is sure in Cathedral Prep's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home while the Dragons have been banged up by seven consecutive losses on the road. Meanwhile, McDowell (ranked 121st) will meet Meadville (ranked 390th) at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
