Softball Game Preview: San Dieguito Academy Mustangs vs. Classical Academy Caimans

The San Dieguito Academy Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Classical Academy Caimans at 4:00 a.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

While San Dieguito Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Fallbrook 11-1 on Friday. The win was nothing new for the Mustangs as they're now sitting on four straight.

Lauryn McGarry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rachelle Acosta, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Willow Wright, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Classical Academy won against La Jolla Country Day on Tuesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. Classical Academy put the hurt on Valley Center with a sharp 15-8 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Caimans.

Classical Academy got a big performance out of Milena McConnell, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Mykennah Beeney-Willard was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Classical Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win got Classical Academy back to even at 2-2. As for San Dieguito Academy, their record now sits at 7-1-1.

Everything went San Dieguito Academy's way against Classical Academy in their previous matchup on Monday, as San Dieguito Academy made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Dieguito Academy since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
