Baseball Recap: Four Straight Road Victories for Beechwood

Beechwood made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Newport Central Catholic, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Tigers put the hurt on the Thoroughbreds with a sharp 12-4 victory on Thursday. Considering the Tigers have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Chase Flaherty made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Flaherty was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Brant Stiles looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Brooks Becker was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Fryman, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Beechwood's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Newport Central Catholic, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 10-5.

Coming up, Beechwood will host Great Crossing at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Newport Central Catholic, they will head out to take on St. Henry at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
