Undefeated Highlanders honored in TOC 2012-13.

With a 48-0 record for the past two seasons, it seemed more than appropriate to honor the Northern Highlands girls varsity soccer team on the first stop of the 2nd Annual MaxPreps Girls Soccer Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard on Thursday, Dec 20.

The Highlanders, who beat Moorestown 3-1 to claim the Group 3 state title capped off their highly successful season by being ranked 14th in the nation by MaxPreps out of over 10,000 girls soccer teams. MaxPreps uses the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings, which takes into account number of wins, quality of wins, and strength of schedule.

The Highlanders were honored during the school's "Holiday Hoopla Assembly," which included a spirited student-faculty basketball game. During halftime, the whole team, donning Tour of Champions t-shirts, gathered at half court to accept the Army National Guard national ranking trophy from Staff Sergeant Michael Biggins from the New Jersey National Guard.

As the crowd cheered and clapped, Coach Tara Madigan thanked MaxPreps and the Army National Guard for the recognition and the fans for their continued support. Afterwards the team, coaches and parents gathered around the coveted trophy to take pictures and take in this great achievement. In addition to MaxPreps and the Army National Guard, The Record had recognized the team's accomplishments with a framed collage of team articles that was displayed as well.

It was apparent that everyone in attendance was proud of the team for its hard work and dedication. After having two incredibly successful seasons, the team said how much it meant to have this presentation in front of the whole school and family members. With several members of the starting squad graduating this year, Coach Madigan and the rest of the team will have quite a challenge next season to continue their undefeated streak. But with their enthusiasm, work ethic and commitment to the sport, it is more than possible.

Congratulations Highlanders and best wishes next season!
