Volleyball Recap: Black River Gets the Win

While Black River's win against Brookside wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates won by a set and slipped past the Cardinals 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since September 9, 2024.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Black River who won the one that mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-13, 21-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-9.

Black River can attribute much of their success to Kate Dieter, who had eight digs and two aces. What's more, Dieter posted two assists, the most she's had over her last seven matchups.

Dieter wasn't the only good server: Black River was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 26 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 18 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Black River pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Brookside, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Black River will venture away from home to challenge New London at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Brookside, they will welcome Cloverleaf at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.
