Baseball Game Preview: Canyon Comanches vs. Redondo Union Sea Hawks

The Canyon Comanches will challenge the Redondo Union Sea Hawks at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Canyon took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They never let Palm Desert get on the board and left with a 3-0 win.

Not much got past Gilbert Vargas, who gave up just six hits to keep Palm Desert off the board.

On the hitting side, Chip Mertz was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Blake Helsper, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Redondo Union gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over Downey. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Sea Hawks.

Geno Guerrero looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ian Brown, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. KG Hattori was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Redondo Union was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Downey only posted a batting average of .217.

Redondo Union now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Canyon, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
