Softball Recap: Dixie Heights Gets the Win

Dixie Heights took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Carroll County, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Colonels had just enough and edged out the Panthers 13-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Colonels have posted since April 15th.

Dixie Heights got a great performance from Sullee Sheehan as she tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Haley Waters, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn McHargue, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Dixie Heights was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .410. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Dixie Heights is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Carroll County, they dropped their record down to 10-5 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dixie Heights will challenge Pendleton County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Carroll County, they will take on Eminence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
