Softball Recap: Alcoa Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Alcoa ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Maryville Red Rebels 5-3. The win was familiar territory for the Tornadoes, who have now won three matches in a row.

Kaylea Osborne tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over 7.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Halle Bailey was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

Alcoa's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-6-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Maryville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-9.

Looking ahead, Alcoa will be playing at home against Gatlinburg-Pittman at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Highlanders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.77 runs per game on average), something the Tornadoes will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Maryville, they are taking a road trip to take on Heritage at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Mountaineers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Red Rebels' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
