Softball Game Preview: Grant Generals vs. Ida B. Wells Guardians

The Grant Generals will take on the Ida B. Wells Guardians at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Grant will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Grant proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out McDaniel 9-8.

Hazel Heron spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gwyn Gerber, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Anya Rumage, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Ida B. Wells came up short against Roosevelt on Tuesday and fell 10-6.

Sam Stevens made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Liv Firestone was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Ida B. Wells dropped their record down to 9-12 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Grant, their victory bumped their record up to 13-7.

Grant skirted past Ida B. Wells 1-0 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Generals repeat their success, or do the Guardians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
