Basketball Recap: Lincoln Cougars vs. Robert C. Byrd Eagles
The Lincoln Cougars were the 43-39 winner over the Robert C. Byrd Eagles when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Lincoln took a 44-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles.
Robert C. Byrd's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Logan Boyce led the charge by scoring 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Boyce has scored at least a third of Robert C. Byrd's points. Another player making a difference was Camryn Newsuan, who scored 11 points along with three steals and three blocks.
Lincoln has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Robert C. Byrd, their win bumped their record up to an identical 5-8.
Lincoln will be playing at home against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in West Virginia (Hampshire is ranked 62nd, while the Cougars are ranked 56th). As for Robert C. Byrd, they will take on the Patriots at 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
