Baseball Recap: Concord Victorious

While Concord's victory against South Bend Riley wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Minutemen had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 5-4 on Saturday. The Minutemen have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Alex Jimenez looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Concord: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 6-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Alex Kridler was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Herman, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Concord hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in five consecutive games.

Concord's win bumped their record up to 8-12. As for South Bend Riley, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-18.

Concord and South Bend Riley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Minutemen will take on Warsaw at 5:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (212 vs. 76). Meanwhile, South Bend Riley (ranked 318th) will meet Mishawaka Marian (ranked 156th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
