Volleyball Recap: Berkeley Comes Up Short

Berkeley lost against Castro Valley back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Yellowjackets lost 3-0 to the Trojans. The Yellowjackets' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Berkeley was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the third set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-14, 25-23.

Sebastian Chen-McDermott paced Berkeley's offense, picking up five kills. Chen-McDermott really made an impact as he also led the team in assists with nine. Davis Bove controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Castro Valley can attribute much of their success to Cyrus Tang, who had 14 digs and six assists. Those six assists gave Tang a new career-high.

Berkeley's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Castro Valley, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Berkeley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 victory against Alameda on the 18th. As for Castro Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Burton on the 12th.
