Softball Game Preview: Fort Bend Hightower Hurricanes vs. Fort Bend Austin Bulldogs

The Fort Bend Hightower Hurricanes will venture away from home to square off against the Fort Bend Austin Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Bend Hightower knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Fort Bend Austin likes a good challenge.

Fort Bend Austin's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Friday: Fort Bend Hightower hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Hurricanes blew past Fort Bend Clements 10-0 on Tuesday. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Rangers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Fort Bend Hightower got a great performance from Bailie Holts as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Holts has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Kourtney Jones-Caldwell was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. Adriauna Coleman also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Fort Bend Hightower was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .417 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Fort Bend Austin fell victim to Fort Bend Travis and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 13-0 to the Tigers. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Fort Bend Austin's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Fort Bend Hightower, their record is now 16-3-2.

Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fort Bend Hightower has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .511. However, it's not like Fort Bend Austin struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Fort Bend Hightower beat Fort Bend Austin 9-5 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hurricanes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
