Basketball Recap: Hawthorne Hornets vs. P.K. Yonge Blue Wave
The Hawthorne Hornets waltzed into their match on Thursday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They took down P.K. Yonge 62-48. Given Hawthorne's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Blue Wave are ranked 339th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
CJ Ingram continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. He hasn't dropped below 18 points for ten straight games. Dacarion Debose was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five assists.
P.K. Yonge's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jantzen Griffin, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Muller, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Hawthorne pushed their record up to 11-4 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for P.K. Yonge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.
Hawthorne will head out on the road to challenge the Rams at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Eastside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Friday. As for P.K. Yonge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tornadoes at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bradford is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
