Baseball Game Preview: Maine East Blue Demons vs. Vernon Hills Cougars

For the second straight game, Maine East will face off against Vernon Hills. The Blue Demons will head out to face off against the Cougars at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Maine East has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 31.

Things were looking good for Maine East after they put the first run on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 16-5 to Vernon Hills.

For Vernon Hills' part, Zach Gilfand looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nate Dugan, who went 3-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. DJ Biede also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Vernon Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Maine East's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Vernon Hills, their victory ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-12.
