Soccer Game Preview: Martin vs. Sam Houston

The Martin Warriors will venture away from home to take on the Sam Houston Texans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sam Houston took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Martin, who comes in off a win.

Martin will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one goal on Friday, then bounced right back against South Grand Prairie on Tuesday. Martin blew past South Grand Prairie 4-1. Martin might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by three goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 1-1 at halftime, Sam Houston was not quite Grand Prairie's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They came up short against the Gophers, falling 4-1. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Texans came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Gophers are ranked 451st).

Martin is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 14 goals over those four games. Sam Houston's defeat dropped their record down to 10-3.

Martin suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Sam Houston when the teams last played back in February. Can Martin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
