Basketball Game Preview: Poth Pirates vs. Wimberley Texans

The Poth Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Wimberley Texans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Poth has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Poth is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 54-47 win over Sinton on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Wimberley suffered their closest loss since December 8, 2023 on Saturday. They fell just short of Pottsboro by a score of 59-56.

Poth will need focus on slowing down Paul Gumbert-Mendoza, one of several Wimberley players who made an impact when they last played. He went 6 for 15 on his way to 17 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. The game was Gumbert-Mendoza's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Wortham, who posted 12 points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Wimberley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Poth's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Wimberley, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.
