Baseball Recap: Groesbeck Wins Going Away Against Westwood

Groesbeck lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Westwood, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's match. Everything went the Groesbeck Goats' way against the Westwood Panthers on Friday as the Groesbeck Goats made off with a 17-3 win. The Goats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.

Braydan Urban made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs but no hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nick Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Reid Stevens, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Groesbeck kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.

Groesbeck's victory bumped their record up to 8-2-1. As for Westwood, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-11.

Coincidentally, Groesbeck and Westwood will both be playing Mexia the next time they take the field. Groesbeck will host Mexia at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Westwood will host them at 6:00 p.m. on March 25th.
