Softball Game Preview: Monticello Magic vs. Becker Bulldogs

The Monticello Magic are taking a road trip to challenge the Becker Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with 11 losses in a row, Monticello turned things around against Princeton on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Tigers.

Josi Ordorff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Monticello let Taylor Marcus and Kiana Pegues run wild. Marcus went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run, while Pegues got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI. Those three hits gave Marcus a new career-high. Jaedynn Ordorff was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, in Friday's Canine Competition, Becker prevailed. They had just enough and edged out St. Anthony Village 7-5. The win was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Monticello's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 2-11. As for Becker, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Monticello couldn't quite finish off Becker in their previous matchup back in April and fell 3-1. Can the Magic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
