Softball Recap: Foothill Extends Home Winning Streak to Three

It was a proper cat-fight when Foothill duked it out with Yamhill-Carlton on Friday. Foothill walked away with a 7-2 victory over Yamhill-Carlton. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Elisea Wiegand was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Foothill let Malia Webb and Hazel Gist run wild. Webb scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Gist scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That stolen base marked the first that Gist snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Rylee Vakulich, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Foothill pushed their record up to 9-3-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Yamhill-Carlton, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Foothill and Yamhill-Carlton will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. Foothill will challenge rival Red Bluff at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Yamhill-Carlton is set to square off against their familiar foe Santiam Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
