Softball Recap: Pecatonica Takes a Loss

Orangeville hit Pecatonica with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Indians came up short against the Broncos, falling 11-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Broncos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-3 back in April.

Maren Davis put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. Davis was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Ellie Bolen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Pecatonica has also been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Orangeville, they pushed their record up to 20-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pecatonica will face off against Lena-Winslow at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Orangeville, they will square off against South Beloit at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Broncos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sobos have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
