Preview: Taylorsville Warriors vs. Farmington Phoenix
The Taylorsville Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Farmington Phoenix at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Taylorsville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Last Friday, Taylorsville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 58-52 to Brighton. While losing is never fun, Taylorsville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 64th, while Brighton is ranked 20th).
Despite the loss, Taylorsville had strong showings from Jenna Sterzer, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds, and Marlee Reupena, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and four steals. The game was Reupena's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karen Jones, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Farmington, who are still winless after their sixth game. They took a 48-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northridge on Friday.
This is the second loss in a row for Taylorsville and nudges their season record down to 4-4. As for Farmington, they bumped their record down to 0-6 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
Taylorsville came up short against Farmington in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 62-49. Can Taylorsville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
