Softball Recap: Murphy Extends Winning Streak to Three

Murphy got themselves on the board against Andrews on Thursday, but Andrews never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 19-0 win. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Paisley Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Emma Laney was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Dockery, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.

Murphy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Murphy pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Andrews, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Looking ahead, Murphy will take on Franklin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 3.9, the Panthers 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Andrews, they will challenge Copper Basin at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
