Basketball Recap: Sierra Stallions vs. Widefield Gladiators
Sierra lost against Widefield back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Sierra Stallions were dealt a 58-16 defeat at the hands of the Widefield Gladiators. The matchup marked the Stallions' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Shetara Roebuck was Sierra's leading scorer, having posted nine points. Ziyon Nicholson held things down on the boards with seven rebounds.
Widefield was led to victory by Isabella Monk and Zariah Ortiz. Monk went 6 of 14 to rack up 16 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals, while Ortiz posted 11 points along with five assists and five steals. What's more, Ortiz also posted a 50% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dasia Rojas, who had nine points.
Sierra's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Widefield, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 13-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sierra will venture away from home to challenge Mitchell at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Mitchell: they have been struggling with six straight losses at home, while Sierra has snatched up eight consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season. As for Widefield, they will head out to square off against Canon City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Canon City will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Widefield surely won't give up without a fight.
