Basketball Recap: Academic Magnet Takes a Loss

If Academic Magnet was riding high fresh off their 23-2 takedown of Charleston Math & Science last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Academic Magnet Raptors were beaten by the Bishop England Battling Bishops 69-23 on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Raptors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Battling Bishops are ranked 13th).

Evie Walldorf was Academic Magnet's leading scorer, having posted eight points. Walldorf also led the team in rebounds with six. Lindsey Griffin took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with four assists.

Bishop England's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hannah Rosato, who went 8 of 13 on her way to 16 points and five steals. Rosato has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Allen, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 16 points and four steals.

Academic Magnet's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Bishop England, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Academic Magnet will head out to face off against Hanahan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bishop England, they will take on Wando at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
