Baseball Recap: Gila Bend Has No Trouble Against Ajo

Gila Bend won the last time they faced Ajo and things went their way on Friday too. The Gila Monsters put the hurt on the Red Raiders with a sharp 20-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Gila Monsters, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.

Zadrian Enos was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Gila Bend: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Rogellio Villegas, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Gila Bend always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Gila Bend and bumps their season record up to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Ajo, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Looking ahead, Gila Bend will head out on the road to square off against Wickenburg Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Gila Monsters' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lion have averaged an impressive 11.5 runs per game this season. As for Ajo, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 12-1 loss against Holy Family Academy on the 15th.
