Baseball Recap: Making Waves Academy's Run of Eight Straight Victories Now Over

Making Waves Academy dropped their record down to 9-5-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Urban Blues, falling 21-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Marlins have suffered since May 8, 2024.

Making Waves Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Oscar Villalobos, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

As for Urban, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Urban's side, Aaron Knupp was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Knupp has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Urban is 3-1 when Knupp posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Kaden Fox-Gabel was incredible, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Urban's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Benji Dawes was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Making Waves Academy will venture away from home to square off against Kennedy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Marlins are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Urban, they will head out to take on University at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
