Baseball Recap: Springfield Southeast Triumphs

Springfield Southeast got themselves on the board against Pekin on Friday, but Pekin never followed suit. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over the Dragons. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Not much got past B Pittman, who gave up just five hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Pekin off the board. Pittman also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Springfield Southeast is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 6-15 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on E Murphy, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was T Herrington, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Springfield Southeast's win bumped their record up to 9-16. As for Pekin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 15 of their last 16 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season.

Springfield Southeast will head out to square off against Williamsville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Spartans are facing the Bullets at the right time seeing as the Bullets are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Pekin, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Limestone at 7:00 p.m.
