Volleyball Recap: Virgin Valley Falls to Snow Canyon in First Game of Season

Virgin Valley had to start their season on the road on Wednesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell just short of the Snow Canyon Warriors by a score of 3-2.

Virgin Valley took Snow Canyon into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-23, 20-25, 24-26, 16-14.

Kinley Hughes paced Virgin Valley's offense, picking up 11 kills. Hughes got some help from Mayzie Tobler and her 32 assists. Hughes was also solid from the service line: she led the team with three aces.

Carleigh Spafford was nothing short of spectacular for Snow Canyon: she had 17 digs and three aces. Those 17 digs gave Spafford a new career-high.

The win was the fourth in a row for Snow Canyon, bringing their record up to 5-1.

Virgin Valley has already played their next contest, a 2-1 defeat against Mission Bay on the 22nd. As for Snow Canyon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 loss against Orem on the 22nd.
