Softball Game Preview: Fostoria Redmen vs. Maumee Panthers

Fostoria hasn't had much luck against Maumee recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Redmen will take on the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Fostoria has given up an average of 19.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Fostoria is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They lost 14-4 to Rossford on Monday.

Hayley Edwards made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season. Another player making a difference was Liliana Bernal, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Maumee came out on top against Otsego on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fourth inning. The Panthers took their matchup against the Knights 9-5. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Julia Coutcher spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maumee got a massive performance out of Taylor Smith, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Reign Hurt, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Fostoria's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Maumee, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.

Fostoria suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Maumee when the teams last played on April 13th. Can the Redmen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
