Softball Recap: Roosevelt Sets Scoring Season-High Against San Joaquin Memorial

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Roosevelt). They were the clear victors by a 22-4 margin over the San Joaquin Memorial Panthers on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Rough Riders with their most commanding win of the season.

Iyanna Molano and Melaney Ortiz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Molano pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Ortiz pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Molano went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Ortiz got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs and two RBI. Those four runs gave Ortiz a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alicia Maldonado was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Lenna Garcia, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Roosevelt always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Joaquin Memorial only posted an OBP of .318.

Roosevelt has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for San Joaquin Memorial, they are on a 29-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Roosevelt is set to face off against their familiar foe Torres at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Rough Riders' favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while the Toros have been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Meanwhile, San Joaquin Memorial will take on rival Fresno at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
