Baseball Recap: Hastings Gets the Win

Hastings took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Tuckahoe, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Yellow Jackets came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers on Monday, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Yellow Jackets have posted since April 4th.

Hastings let Matt Corbo and Kieran McGrath run wild. Corbo went 2-for-4 with one home run, while McGrath went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits Corbo has posted since April 4th. Another player making a difference was Johnny Sbrega, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Hastings always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Hastings has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Tuckahoe, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-3.

Looking ahead, Hastings will face off against Blind Brook at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.6 runs per game on average), something the Yellow Jackets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Tuckahoe, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against The Leffell School on the 29th.
