Baseball Game Preview: Vista PEAK Prep Bison vs. Fruita Monument Wildcats

The Vista PEAK Prep Bison will head out to take on the Fruita Monument Wildcats at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Vista PEAK Prep lost 9-1 to Grand Junction on Friday.

Vista PEAK Prep got a good showing from Eli Garcia, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Vista PEAK Prep saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Brancato, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Fruita Monument didn't have quite enough to beat Prairie View on Saturday and fell 6-4. The Wildcats have struggled against the Thunderhawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.

Karson Reed made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI.

Vista PEAK Prep now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Fruita Monument, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Vista PEAK Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Fruita Monument struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Vista PEAK Prep suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Fruita Monument when the teams last played back in March of 2022. Can Vista PEAK Prep avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
