Softball Recap: North Vermillion Comes Up Short

North Vermillion extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-6. They came up short against the Seeger Patriots, falling 20-3. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

North Vermillion saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Willow Campbell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Campbell is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another was Ava Jumps, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

As for Seeger, the victory got them back to even at 3-3. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

On Seeger's side, Autumn Plunkett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Plunkett was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Seeger got a massive performance out of Layla Cavanaugh, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. That triple was Cavanaugh's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Stephen, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

While North Vermillion had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
