Mar Vista is 9-1 against Sweetwater since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mariners will host the Red Devils at 3:30 p.m.
Mar Vista is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Olympian on Wednesday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. The Mariners' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sweetwater). They were the clear victors by a 22-1 margin over Kearny on Monday. The Red Devils have beaten the Komets the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Komets has come to flipping the script.
Neylea Rivera and Gabriella Sena were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Rivera pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Meanwhile, Sena tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Rivera went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Sena went 1-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave Rivera a new career-high.
In other batting news, Sweetwater got a massive performance out of Layla Silva, who fired off six RBI, four doubles, and one run while going 4-for-4. Those six RBI gave Silva a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Romero, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI.
Sweetwater always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kearny only posted an OBP of .261.
Sweetwater's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Mar Vista, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-10-2.
Everything went Mar Vista's way against Sweetwater when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Mar Vista made off with a 10-3 win. Do the Mariners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
