Softball Recap: Slaton Comes Up Short

Slaton dropped their record down to 17-11 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Childress Bobcats by a score of 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last seven times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Childress, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-11-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

For Childress' part, Ansley Parr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. Parr has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 24 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaleigh Ross, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Kaylee Felton was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.

While Slaton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Saturday.
