Softball Game Preview: Colfax Vikings vs. Shell Lake Lakers

The Colfax Vikings will square off against the Shell Lake Lakers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Colfax is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.

While Colfax's win against Durand-Arkansaw wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Panthers 3-2 on Tuesday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Laikyn Beyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brynn Sikora, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles.

Meanwhile, Shell Lake fell victim to McDonell Central and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to the Macks, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Lakers have struggled against the Macks recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Shell Lake's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Colfax, their win bumped their record up to 17-4.

Colfax came out on top in a nail-biter against Shell Lake in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lakers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
