Baseball Recap: Moapa Valley Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Moapa Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Chaparral Cowboys a 10-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Christopher Kohntopp made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kohntopp was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lachlan Stephenson, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Logan Schouten was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Moapa Valley's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Chaparral, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Moapa Valley will take on Sports Leadership & Management at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Chaparral, they will square off against Virgin Valley at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Virgin Valley will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Chaparral surely won't give up without a fight.
