Baseball Game Preview: Summerville Green Wave vs. Fort Dorchester Patriots

For the second straight game, Summerville will face off against Fort Dorchester. The Green Wave will venture away from home to challenge the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The last four games Summerville has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Summerville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Carolina's top teams: Fort Dorchester, who was ranked eighth at the time (Summerville was ranked tenth). The Green Wave fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. Green Wave fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Patriots since on Wednesday.

For Fort Dorchester's part, Banks Wickersham was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Wickersham has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lee Lovelace, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Fort Dorchester has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Summerville, their loss dropped their record down to 18-8.
