Basketball Recap: Cross Comes Up Short

Cross extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-7. They were outmatched by the Northside Christian Academy Crusaders and fell 71-25. The Trojans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-15.

As for Northside Christian Academy, the victory got them back to even at 8-8. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Leading Northside Christian Academy to victory were Maddie Coker and Jubilee Beckwith. Coker shot 70% from the field on her way to 15 points along with seven assists and three steals, while Beckwith went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points. Coker's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Catalina De La Plaza, who posted six points and nine boards.

Looking ahead, Cross will be playing at home against Scott's Branch at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Northside Christian Academy, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Augusta Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Crusaders will be up against the Lions' rather soft defense (which has allowed 51.58 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
