Paul VI's Faith Alston is the Player of the Year.

"Faith Alston is one of the best leaders we've ever had at Paul VI," said coach Scott Allen
That's saying something, as PVI has become a fixture in the MaxPreps Top 25 national girls high school basketball rankings. This year, the Virginia power finished 32-4 and No. 11 in the nation, and Alston was at the center of everything.
"The stat you can't chart is impact," Allen said, of the 2019-20 Suddenlink Virginia Player of the Year.
She scored 9.8 points per game and added 6.1 assists and 4.3 steals per game. And while they might not jump off the page, they were done against impressive competition. It's no secret that the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference is one of the best in the country, and Alston had to battle against elite talent night after night.
And let's not forget the part of the game that coaches love so much: "Faith is our best defender by far," he said, which meant that "the true point guard" ran the offense, defended the other team's top perimeter player and "made her teammates better" every time out.
Alston will move on to Appalachian State next year, but Allen thinks a return to Paul VI might just be in the cards. "She will sit next to me as a coach someday," he says of the 4.0 student who never missed a practice and was never late in four years on varsity.

Faith Alston, Paul VI (Fairfax)5-7 | Senior | Guard | Appalachian State
A pure point guard, Alston led the Panthers to a No. 11 national ranking while scoring 9.8 points per night in addition to doing the things that don't show up on the stat sheet.
Peyton Carter, Abingdon
5-8 | Senior | Guard | Tennessee TechShe can definitely score, with a career high of 42 as a junior, and 21.1 points per game as a senior. She also added 7.4 rebounds and 6.6 assists a game for 23-5 Abingdon.
Jasha Clinton, Princess Anne (Virginia Beach)
5-8 | Senior | Guard | TempleThe dynamic Clifton led the way for 26-1 Princess Anne, and finished with 15.0 points, 5.0 assists and 4.4 steals per game. Only a loss to national No. 7 Bishop McNamara kept Princess Anne from an unbeaten season.
Stephanie Ouderkirk, Spotswood (Penn Laird)
6-2 | Senior | Post | James MadisonHer powerful post game led Spotswood to a 28-2 record and a spot in the 3A finals, and her presence forced other teams to try to figure out how to stop her. They weren't that successful as her 16 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks per game show.
Lee Volker, Paul VI
6-0 | Junior | Wing | UncommittedLike Alston, Volker had to earn every point and rebound, as PVI played by far the most difficult schedule in the state. So perhaps Volker's 12.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game don't dazzle as much, but opponents know her impact on the outcome of a game transcended her numbers.
Second Team
Jordan Hodges, Monacan (Richmond)
5-6 | Junior | Guard | UncommittedHer versatility was a key to Monacan's 25-2 record and spot in the 4A finals, as her 17.8 points a game was only part of the story. She also had 5.5 assists and 3.3 steals a game, but her 35 percent from 3-point distance, 81 percent from the line and 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio were extremely impressive as well.
Aziaha James, Princess Anne
5-11 | Junior | Wing | UncommittedGet James on the run, and good things happened for Princess Anne. Even in the halfcourt, James got hers, as she averaged 18.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, 4.7 steals and 2.8 assists per game for a 26-1 team.
Ja'Naiya Quinerly, Lake Taylor (Norfolk)
5-6 | Junior | Guard | UncommittedLake Taylor is a consistent force in Virginia basketball, and Quinerly, the team's playmaking lead guard, is a big reason that tradition continues. She can feed her teammates as well as score herself, and her clever floor game keeps the offense on track.
Maikya Simmons, Bishop O'Connell (Arlington)
5-6 | Senior | Guard | UncommittedOften overlooked in the powerful Washington Catholic Athletic Conference, Bishop O'Connell went 23-7 this past season, and among those 23 wins was an upset of national No. 11 Paul VI. The key to that win, and the other 22, was Simmons, the senior point guard, who makes them go.
Bailey Williams, Cosby (Midlothian)
5-7 | Senior | Guard | James MadisonIt's no surprise that the 3-point shooting Williams, a state champion as a sophomore and a junior, wound up at James Madison — her father Eric is still the all-time leader in total offense at JMU and has a plaque in the school's Hall of Fame.
Third TeamAlyssa Andrews, Charles J. Colgan (Manassas)
6-0 | Junior | Forward | UncommittedAndrews averaged a double-double for 21-6 Charles Colgan, with 22.1 points and 12.0 rebounds a game, but her 2.8 blocks also showed she was a rim protector as well.
Maya Ellis, Meadowbrook (Richmond)
5-8 | Junior | Guard | UncommittedThough there's much more to the game than scoring, it's also true that the winner is decided by points, not rebounds or intangibles, and Ellis averaged 26.2 points a game for Meadowbrook. She also blocked 2.1 shots a game and averaged 6.3 rebounds, so she was more than a scorer — but still, 26 a game is not to be overlooked.
Tedi Makrigiorgos, Madison (Vienna, Va.)
5-5 | Senior | Guard | UncommittedMakrigiorgos is the smallest player on the all-state teams, but she made a sizable impression on opponents for 28-1 Madison. She had 26 points in the 6A semifinal win over James River, but she and her teammates were denied a shot at a state title by the coronavirus cancellations.
Sherese Pittman, Steward (Richmond)
5-11 | Junior | Wing | UncommittedPittman was dominant in the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association, leading Steward to the Division II title. She averaged a double-double — 16.8 points and 11.7 rebounds — and also contributed 2.9 blocks, 3.2 assists and 2.5 steals a game.
Jaelyn Talley, Paul VI
6-0 | Sophomore | Forward | UncommittedThe third member of the Panthers on the all-state list, Talley averaged 10.9 points and 4.7 rebounds a game. Like her two teammates, Talley had to bring it every night against a schedule unmatched by any other team in the state.
