Softball Recap: Declo Takes a Loss

Declo extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-6. They fell 7-4 to the Wood River Wolverines. If the Hornets were looking for revenge after losing 14-4 to the Wolverines when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Wood River, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

For Wood River's part, Hadley Elsbree was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Elsbree a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Amalia Boyle, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Coming up, Declo will face off against Sugar-Salem at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Diggers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.13 runs per game on average), something the Hornets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wood River, they will square off against McCall-Donnelly at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The Vandals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.67 runs per game on average), something the Wolverines will no doubt try to take advantage of.
