Basketball Recap: Jones Comes Up Short

Jones fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Holdenville on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 78-74 to the Wolverines. The Longhorns were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolverines apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2025.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Holdenville to victory, but perhaps none more so than R.J. Lowe, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 23 points. Another player making a difference was Rowdy Elkins, who posted 20 points and seven boards.

Jones has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season. As for Holdenville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-12.

Looking ahead, Jones will head out to square off against Lexington at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Holdenville, they will take on Community Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolverines will be up against the Royals' rather soft defense (which has allowed 55.92 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
