Recap: Vina Red Devils vs. Tremont Eagles

The Vina Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 50-40 to Tremont. Vina found out winning isn't easy when you make six fewer threes than your opponent.

Vina lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Mikala Mitchell, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Lana Bell, who scored ten points.

Even though they lost, Vina were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Tremont got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Paige Gillespie out in front who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Gillespie is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Saige Black was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Vina bumped their record down to 6-9 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Tremont, their win bumped their record up to 5-8-1.

Vina's road trip will continue as they head out to face Cherokee at 12:00 p.m. on December 28th. Tremont will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Brilliant at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
