Baseball Recap: Hazard's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Hazard's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Floyd Central Jaguars an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldogs' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Jayden Fraley and Tucker Napier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Fraley tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Napier tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hazard is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-17 otherwise. At the plate, Fraley went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Napier went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits Napier has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Trace Kincaid was excellent, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Hazard is 6-2 when Kincaid posts three or more hits, but 9-16 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Tye Fugate, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Hazard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Floyd Central only posted an OBP of .280.

With the win, Hazard broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 15-18. As for Floyd Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-14 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hazard will challenge Clay County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Floyd Central, they will take on Magoffin County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
