Baseball Game Preview: Birdville Hawks vs. Fossil Ridge Panthers

The Birdville Hawks will square off against the Fossil Ridge Panthers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Birdville has three straight victories, Fossil Ridge has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Birdville's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They came out on top against Denton by a score of 5-0.

Birdville got a great performance from Gabe Winans as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Winans a new career-low in hits (zero).

At the plate, Birdville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Owens, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Eric Ortiz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Fossil Ridge came up short against Granbury on Friday, falling 9-2.

Fossil Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 4-10-2. As for Birdville, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.

Birdville couldn't quite get it done against Fossil Ridge when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can Birdville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
