Baseball Recap: Springfield Southeast Takes a Loss

Springfield Southeast came into this matchup off a tough 15-run loss last Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Normal University Pioneers by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 9-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

T Herrington was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Springfield Southeast is 2-1 when Herrington allows one or fewer hits, but 1-10 otherwise. Herrington was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, B Twist made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Toby Basden also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Springfield Southeast is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11. As for Normal University, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-2.

Coincidentally, Springfield Southeast and Normal University will both be playing Sacred Heart-Griffin the next time they take the field. The Pioneers will host the Cyclones at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Spartans will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
