Softball Recap: Woden's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Woden had lost four games straight , but after bumping their record up to 8-9 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They skirted past the West Sabine Tigers 4-2. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 6-2 win the Tigers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Riley Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Judith Montoya, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Jolette Montoya was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for West Sabine, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-10-1 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss they have suffered since March 25th.

On West Sabine's side, London Weatherspoon was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Weatherspoon was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Weatherspoon wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brenya Mohr, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Woden will have a chance to go back-to-back against West Sabine: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
